VanConnect 5G

The fastest and most capable caravan internet system on the market

The internet makes it possible

The internet makes it possible to quickly find information, communicate with people online that share our interests, manage our finances, shop online, listen to music, watch videos, and much, much more. Additionally, some travelers rely on internet access for a memorable vacation. They want to document their trip on social media, and some may even be major figures on social media whose careers depend on posting frequently.

Without access to fast, reliable internet, you’re likely to find that your travels are not as fun as you thought they would be. Even people planning to go completely off-grid may find the lack of internet access problematic – there’s no telling when you may encounter a situation that turns your plans on their head. The internet is the fastest way to be updated on what is happening around you and adjust your plans. With the VanConnect 5G you get exactly that, fast and reliable internet. The VanConnect 5G gives you access to the internet across all of your devices; phones, iPads, tablets, laptops and anything else that can connect to a WiFi network.

Designed for your caravan

The VanConnect 5G is specifically designed for your caravan. Our VanConnect works on a standard 12 volt power connection, meaning an easy installation in your caravan or camper.

The VanConnect 5G has been developed from experience through what did and didn’t work while traveling. We tried and tested the VanConnect during our travels in order to school the kids and connect with our friends. What we want is what everyone wants; the ability to connect and communicate while we travel.

5G Technology

The VanConnect 5G incorporates the latest advancements in 5G technology, including 4×4 MU-MIMO (Multiple User, Multiple Input, Multiple Output), giving you lightning fast internet. 4×4 MU-MIMO is a wireless technology that uses four transmitters and receivers to transfer more data at the same time, effectively quadrupling your connection speed.

When there is no 5G service available, the VanConnect will revert back to 4G and operate on 4G LTE-Advanced. Through LTE-Advanced, the VanConnect 5G is able to give you the fastest 4G speeds available in the industry. We have designed the software to change over from 5G and 4G automatically, but you can also do this manually if you want to.

Better reception means faster internet!

The Cowfish VanConnect is designed to get you better reception and this means faster internet. The unit comes with a superior 5G, 4G and 3G capable omni directional antenna that provides a stronger connection to your mobile network provider. There are 4 individual antenna elements inside the housing, giving you the best possible reception and lighting faster internet.

This external antenna also incorporates a WiFi element, so that you get a far reaching WiFi network for you to enjoy in and around the caravan.

WiFi technology

And when it comes to WiFi, the VanConnect 5G utilises MU-MIMO technology (Multiple User, Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output).

Through MU-MIMO, you can rest assured that all of your devices on the WiFi network can benefit from the superior 5G internet speeds. Traditional MIMO modems communicate with all the WiFi devices in turn. When there are multiple devices on the WiFi network, some devices have to wait and the network will lag. The biggest difference between traditional MIMO and MU-MIMO is that MU-MIMO can communicate with multiple devices at the same time, instead of only one device at a time.

Connected while traveling

Another great feature of the VanConnect 5G is that your devices can connect to the internet whilst travelling toward your next destination. The superb WiFi range of the VanConnect 5G will allow you to connect devices from inside your car, to the VanConnect installed in your caravan. This is possible even when traversing at 100 km/h. As a result, your co-driver can get the latest update on WikiCamps or check Google Maps.

With the built-in media centre you can keep the children entertained on the back seat. Plug in a USB stick or external hard drives and share movies, videos or music across multiple devices at the same time.

The VanConnect is endorsed by Telstra and is supplied with a Telstra Pre-Paid SIM card. The unit however is not locked to a specific provider and is optimised for all Australian networks, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone or other. The VanConnect works on Pre-Paid Plans, Contracts and even Data Share SIM cards. As a result, you can choose which Australian Telecom Provider you would like to use and if you want a pre-paid data plan or a monthly data plan.

How does the VanConnect 5G Compare

Faster internet and a superior reception capability. And those are the two key components for having internet on the road.

When comparing reception capabilities, the VanConnect far exceeds mobile units such as the Nighthawk, due to the inclusion of a sophisticated external antenna. Comparing the VanConnect 5G to other units with external antennas such as the RVwifi 5G unit, the VanConnect 5G achieves a 140% greater reception, due to its superior antenna design and state of the art microprocessor.

Lastly, the VanConnect 5G is futureproof. We are sure that you have heard of 5G, who hasn’t? But there is a lot to 5G and some of the technological innovations are not well known. For instance, there are two types of 5G networks; Non Stand Alone (NSA) 5G and Stand Alone (SA) 5G.
What is 5G NSA and SA

Non Stand Alone 5G networks rely on a 4G core. What this means is that the 5G system is built on top of an existing 4G network. Smartphones and modems connect to the 5G frequencies for faster connectivity, but the overall system still uses 4G for communication between mobile towers and servers. That is what we have been using here in Australia at the start of the 5G rollout. For the most part, it does the job; faster speeds than 4G and higher bandwidth. But it’s not a full-fledged 5G network and does not provide the customers with the fastest internet possible.

5G NSA SA.jpg

Stand Alone 5G, on the other hand, uses a 5G core. 5G SA has a greater capacity, it provides that ultra-low latency we’ve heard about for years. Some describe 5G SA as the real 5G network and this step in 5G opens the door to a range of new 5G improvements and opportunities. To benefit from 5G SA, your device also requires to be compatible with 5G SA. The Telstra and Optus mobile networks are now ready for 5G Stand Alone (SA). The 5G networks were initially launched using 4G infrastructure but is transitioning to using a 5G core.

In order to connect to 5G Stand Alone, your device requires to support 5G SA technology on top of 5G NSA. The VanConnect 5G is futureproof and supports 5G Stand Alone as well as Non Stand Alone, so you will be able to experience 5G as it grows and improves over the years; much faster connections, higher capacity, and low-to-zero latency
